The cemetery as an architecture project resides conceptually somewhere between the sacred and the profane. It could very well be the origin of the city. The cemetery houses, in our hearts and minds, the concept of mortality. And yet, as a building project, the cemetery engages disciplinary interest of the prosaic nature such as design and drawing, construction, composition, urbanism, landscape, geography, and geology. The studio consisted of the design of a municipal cemetery in Virginia Key which included a masterplan, burial plots, all ritual and service buildings, as well as pertinent funerary art.
